The Blue Ghost Of Corpus Christi

Rising like a mountain from the crystal blue waters of the Corpus Christi coast is a remarkable sight. It is the home of a 70 year old Lady Sailor, this lady is the “Blue Ghost” the U.S.S Lexington. She is a highly decorated veteran of several wars and is now the number One tourist attraction in Corpus Christi.

Laid down in 1941 she was originally to be named the Cabot. When her sister ship, the Lexington was destroyed at the battle of the Coral sea, the Cabot was renamed in honor of her sibling. This was when she first received her nickname “The Blue Ghost”. The Japanese, having sunk the Lex, were stunned to see her return from the dead months later to wreak havoc upon them. She went on to serve with honor, receiving a number of medals, including the Presidential Unit Citation, equivalent to the Distinguished Service Medal. She’s also a SEAL, having received the Special Operations Service Ribbon.

“Lady Lex” was decommissioned in 1991 after serving longer than any ship of her class. She is the oldest aircraft carrier in the world. But she still has her looks. She went on to a career as a movie star, appearing in films like “Midway” and ironically imitating a Japanese warship in 2001’s “Pearl Harbor”.

Recently she has done a turn as a TV star. She has been featured on a number of paranormal themed TV programs. Some say that the “Blue Ghost” is haunted. One of her first losses was Nile Kinnick the Heisman trophy winner of 1939. His plane was lost at sea, but some say he still walks the passageways.

Her latest career has been as an educator. In 1992 she was donated as a museum and was named a National Historic Landmark in 2003. She features 20 aircraft, a MEGAtheater(think IMAX), with guided and unguided tours. And if you dare, schedule an overnight stay with “The Blue Ghost” and her spectral crew.

This information helps the consultant determine the mileage for your move. Some moving companies charge travel time from their building to you and from you. Ask about travel time.
Do you know the approximate square footage of your home? Give the moving consultant the square footage of your apt/condo/home or office. This helps in determining the size of the moving vehicle to send you.
How many bedrooms and living spaces are you moving? Furnish the number of bedrooms and living spaces (i.e. den, dining room, living room). This information also assists in determining the size vehicle and also equipment to bring. If you’re not moving every room, let them know.
Are there any stairs involved with your move? Let the moving consultant know if there are stairs involved in the move. Some moving companies charge for stairs, some don’t. Either way this helps them plan accordingly. Ask if they charge for stairs.
Are there any large fragile items that you will be moving? Notify the moving consultant of any large fragile items they will need to move for you. To make sure that you’ve done everything to ensure a successful move, here are some last minute to-do’s to keep in mind.

Transfer Medical Records / Insurance

Have up to date medical records for the new doctor, and contact your insurance company and make them aware of your move. Some insurance companies don’t cover certain areas of the country.

Open New Bank Accounts

A lot of banks are regional, so if you’re moving long distance you may have to find a new bank that’s closer to where you’re moving to. If you need to find a new bank, be sure to open a new account before closing your current account.

Find a new Doctor

Finding a good doctor is crucial. Obviously, it’s hard to take your current doctor with you on your move. So research and talk to local doctors in your new area and talk to them until you find one who puts you at ease when it comes to you.

Transfer Prescriptions

If anyone in your family needs to take medication regularly, then have a couple of month’s worth of prescriptions from your doctor. Have these prescriptions called into the pharmacy in your new town.

Transfer School Records

Ask your current school system to make copies of your school records for safe keeping.
